Dr. Silvia Gratz
Chief Medical Officer Medical Director, N3 Adult Psychiatric Unit

Dr. Silvia Gratz joined the medical staff at Fairmount on June 26, 2006 and was appointed the Chief Medical Officer in January 2011. She is also the Medical Director of N3, our High Acuity adult psychiatric unit.

Dr. Gratz completed her undergraduate studies at the LaSalle University, Cum Laude and received her D.O. from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1985. After her internship in Internal Medicine at Hahnemann University Hospital, she completed a residency in adult psychiatry at Hahnemann University Hospital in 1989 and a two-year National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) sponsored fellowship in Clinical Psychopharmacology in 1991 at the Eastern Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute (EPPI).

Board Certified in Psychiatry since 1998, Dr. Gratz has provided her expertise in many regional psychiatric facilities and has served as a Professor and Lecturer in the Department of Psychiatry at EPPI and the Drexel University College of Medicine. Notable positions include Director of ECT and Medical Director of the Schizophrenia Center at EPPI, Director of Adult Inpatient Services at MCP/Hahnemann and Interim Medical Director of Hahnemann University Hospital, Psychiatric Medical Care Unit. She has been the recipient of many teaching awards while on staff at MCP/EPPI as well as the Exemplary Psychiatry Award from the National Institute of Mental Illness (NAMI) and the MCP Physician Star Award for the Most Dedicated Doctor.

Dr. Gratz is an active member of many professional organizations including the American Psychiatric Association, American Medical Association, and the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology. She has been appointed and elected to several leadership positions and committees including the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and Chairperson, Performance Improvement Committee at EPPI; and the Drug Safety Monitoring Board at the Drexel University College of Medicine. Dr. Gratz was one of the original 2 Principal Investigators in Philadelphia for CATIE – a research program studying treatment effectiveness and outcomes in schizophrenia. Dr. Gratz has also published several journal articles and book chapters on psychopharmacology particularly focusing on the treatment of Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome and has been the recipient of several research grants exploring treatment of Psychotic Disorders.

Dr. Kurt Miceli
President of the Medical Staff, Medical Director, Admissions and Assessment Center

After graduating summa cum laude from Villanova University with degrees in biology and economics, Dr. Kurt Miceli pursued his Doctor of Medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine. He completed his studies in 2003 and went on to residency at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, during which time he also served for one year in the American Medical Association's House of Delegates and on the Medical Society of Virginia's Board of Directors as a resident member. Dr. Miceli is board certified in both General Psychiatry and Internal Medicine. He also holds an MBA from the Darden School of Business (UVA).

Prior to joining Fairmount, he worked from 2008 to 2010 part-time as an Assistant Professor for the University of Virginia Medical Center, supervising residents on the adult inpatient unit. In July 2010, Dr. Miceli returned to his birth state of New York where he worked as a civilian psychiatrist for the U.S. Army Medical Command at West Point. There he cared for active duty service members returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Dr. Edward Moore
Attending Physician,
Child/Adolescent Services

Dr. Edward Moore attended Hahnemann University School of Medicine, achieving his M.D. degree in 1990. Following an internship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital he completed his residency in psychiatry and also a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Hahnemann University Hospital.

Board certified since April 1996, Dr. Moore has provided leadership at many Philadelphia/South Jersey area institutions since returning to this area after a brief stint in private practice in the Norfolf/Virginia Beach area. Notable positions have included Directorship of the Extended Acute Unit of Girard Medical Center; appointment as Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and the Medical Directorship at the Bridge Drug/Alcohol Adolescent Rehab Program. He has been the Director of Child and Adolescent Services at Fairmount BHS since 2003.

Dr. Scott Dunzik
Medical Director,
N4 Adult Inpatient Unit

Dr. Dunzik attended Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia and graduated in 1992. He completed his residency in Psychiatry at the Institute of Pennsylvania Hospital in 1996. He has also received additional training in Psychoanalysis at the Philadelphia Center for Psychoanalysis. Dr. Dunzik received board certification in 1999 by the American Board of Neurology and Psychiatry.

For the period of September 1998 through August 1999 Dr. Dunzik was a volunteer faculty member of the Thomas Jefferson University School of Medicine where he taught first year medical students; and he also supervised PCOM medical students on psychiatry rotations at Mercy Hospital during this same period.

From July of 1997 through 2000 Dr. Dunzik served as the Medical Director on the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit at Mercy Hospital of Philadelphia. For the past five years Dr. Dunzik has served as Medical Director of the N4 Unit at Fairmount Behavioral Health System, which serves dual-diagnosis patients.

Dr. Vijaya Velagapudi

Attending Physician,
Child/Adolescent Unit

In 1980 Dr. Velagapudi enrolled at Gunter Medical College of Nagarjuna University where she received her medical degree in 1986. In 1995 Dr. Velagapudi completed a Fellowship Appointment in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, from the Philadelphia Child Guidance Center.

In 1995 Dr. Velagapudi was appointed Medical Director of the Child and Adolescent Program at Allegheny University Hospital, Mt. Sinai, where she remained until 1997. She worked for one year at Foundations Behavioral Health as an Inpatient Psychiatrist from 1997 to 1998; and began working part-time at the Bethanna Mental Health Clinic and Life Counseling Center in 2001. She continues to work part-time as a child psychiatrist in the Outpatient Program at Northwestern Human Services of Philadelphia. Dr. Velagapudi came to Fairmount Behavioral Health System in 2001 where she is employed as a full-time psychiatrist on our child/adolescent inpatient unit.

Dr. Jasmine Gill
Medical Director,
Acute Partial Hospitalization Program

Dr. Jasmine Gill has been appointed the new Medical Director of the Partial Hospitalization Program as of July 12, 2010. Dr. Gill graduated from St. Christopher's College of Medicine in 2005 and completed her Psychiatry Residency training at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, NJ. She received the prestigious "Thomas Newmark Award" appointed by the Chairman of the Psychiatry department to the resident who best displayed excellence in patient care.

Dr. Gill is an active member of many professional organizations including the American Psychiatric Association and the American Medical Association. She has also published several journal articles and continues to pursue her passion for learning and education. She is committed to the field of psychiatry and is an advocate to heighten awareness of mental illness amongst the community.

Dr. Michael Cohen
Medical Director,
Chemical Dependency Services

Michael Cohen, M.D. attended New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, where he received his BFA and AA in Film production and Liberal arts. After working for several years as a stockbroker on Wall Street, he finished his post-baccalaureate work at Penn State University and graduated from Ross University School of medicine. He completed his residency at Cooper University Hospital in Camden New Jersey where he focused on addiction medicine and pursued elective studies in addiction medicine and nutrition. Dr Cohen incorporates a holistic approach to his treatment strategy, emphasizing a traditional approach through counseling and medication, but also includes dietary and nutritional changes and physical fitness to his patient treatment plans.

Dr. Nohazarahit Garcia
Attending Physician,
N5 Unit

Dr. Nohazarahit Garcia joined the medical staff at Fairmount in September 2011 and is the Attending Physician of N5, our Young Adult Unit.

Dr. Garcia completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Heidelberg, Germany and received her Doctor of Medicine and Doctorate in psychiatry, magna cum laude from Ruprecht-Karls University of Heidelberg, Germany. After her post-graduate internship at the Psychiatry Clinic of the University of Heidelberg, she completed her residency in psychiatry at Drexel University.

Dr. Garcia has conducted several presentations at Drexel University on the topics of perinatal depression, anxiety disorders and the use of hypnotics and stimulants and was the recipient of the Arnold P. Gold Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Award and was nominated for the Golden Apple awards in 2008. Dr. Garcia has also published journal articles on Plasticity of cortical activation related to working memory, neuropsychological deficits in a case of Fahr's disease.

Dr. Azeza Uddin
Attending Physician,
N3 Unit and Admissions/Needs Assessment

Dr. Azeza Uddin joined the medical staff at Fairmount in September 2011 as an Attending Physician on the N3 unit, our High Acuity and adult psychiatric unit. She also provides psychiatry coverage to the Admissions Department.

Dr. Uddin completed her undergraduate studies at the Tennessee State University and received her Doctor of Medicine from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN in 2005. After her internship at the University of Tennessee-Baptist Hospital-Health Science Center, she completed her residency at the University of California San Francisco in 2009, where she was also Chief Resident.

Board Certified in Psychiatry and Neurology, Dr, Uddin has held positions as an Urgent Care Psychiatrist at the Coatesville VA Medical Center and as a Suboxone Clinic and Inpatient Psychiatrist at the VA Central California Health Care System, Fresno, CA. She is also certified to prescribe buprenorphine (Suboxone).

Dr. Uddin is an active member of the American Psychiatric Association, American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry and the American Medical Association.

Dr. Renata Angelini
Attending Physician,
N1 Unit

Dr. Renata Angelini joined the medical staff at Fairmount Behavioral Health System in December, 2011 and is the Attending Physician of N1, our Chronic Unit.

Dr. Angelini completed her undergraduate studies at the Philadelphia University, Cum Laude, and received her Doctor of Medicine from the Medical University of the Americas (MUA), in the West Indies. She completed her residency at Drexel University College of Medicine (DUCOM). Dr. Angelini is certified to prescribe Suboxone. In addition, she is certified by the Academy of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as a CBT therapist and also has a certification in Mindfulness Therapy.

Dr. Angelini has recently held positions as a Psychiatrist with Mirmont Treatment Center and on the Mobile Team for Mental Health Management within the Philadelphia Prison System. She received the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Award from DUCOM, Clinical Rotations Honors and Deans List while at MUA and received a Presidential Scholarship and a Merit Scholar Award while at Philadelphia University.

Dr. Angelini has conducted several presentations while at DUCOM on the topics of narcolepsy, multiple myeloma and malingering mental retardation. She has also published articles related to certain medical illnesses, such as multiple myeloma, as the primary contributor of psychosis; as well as forensic related topics involving malingering mental retardation and paruresis. Dr. Angelini is an active member of the American Psychiatric Association, American Academy of Psychiatry and Law, Health Information and Management Systems and Medicine Meets Virtual Reality.
