Allied Therapy
Fairmount has
developed a full Allied Therapy Program to assist in providing other
mediums to encourage patients to communicate and express themselves.
Allied Therapy is a group of different therapies including Art
Therapy, Behavioral Therapy, Movement Therapy, Music Therapy, and
Recreation Therapy. Each therapy uses an assortment of activities to
help with coping skills, stress management, social skills, relapse
prevention, leisure education and more.
What is Group Therapy with Allied Therapy?
Group Therapy is an outlet for patients to talk about their issues
and learn from each other. Group therapy is a chance to develop
positive strategies for emotional release.
What is Life Skills with Allied Therapy?
Life Skills is an educational group for coping strategies, relapse
prevention, stress and anger management, relaxation education, and
more. Life Skills helps develop patient’s ability to cope with daily
life experiences.
What is Creative Arts Therapy with Allied Therapy?
Creative Arts Therapy includes music, movement, art, games, and
other creative experiences. Creative Arts Therapy helps patients to
develop leisure skills, increase stress management, help
socialization skills, improve self-esteem and develop other coping
strategies.
What is Behavioral Therapy?
Behavioral Therapy provides dual-diagnosed individuals with
pertinent information regarding mental health and relapse
prevention. Behavioral Therapy includes group discussions and
education sessions. Behavioral Therapy provides emotional release
and helps develop positive coping strategies for daily life
experiences.
What is Movement Therapy?
Movement Therapy is a creative outlet to help people cope with
emotions, anxiety and stress. In Movement Therapy groups, people
begin to develop and experience a flexible and confident sense of
their body, as well as learning to nurture and care for their bodily
needs.
What is Art Therapy?
Art Therapy is the use of art expression for communication of
thoughts, feelings and experiences, as well as the development of
personal growth and creativity. It uses a variety of materials with
a selected purpose. Some materials can be very frustrating, while
others can be easier to use. Sharing images is important in Art
Therapy. Patients can communicate without talking. Art Therapy tasks
include projective drawings and group murals, as well as many other
art activities.
What is Music Therapy?
Music Therapy is a creative outlet for coping strategies and
self-expression. Music Therapy activities include improvisation on
percussion instruments, singing, song writing, musical games, song
lyric discussions, movement, relaxation and much more. Music Therapy
helps increase frustration tolerance, improve stress and anger
management, promote relaxation techniques, increase self esteem,
improve socialization and group relations, and develop other coping
strategies for life experiences.
What is Recreation Therapy?
Recreation Therapy provides therapeutic recreational activities and
discussion groups that challenge the mind, improve the physical
body, assist with socialization and provide emotional release.
Recreation Therapy helps patients improve their leisure lifestyle by
teaching positive coping-skills, improving frustration tolerance,
improving self-esteem, and promoting positive social interaction.
Recreation Therapy uses activities including music, movement, art,
poetry, physical games, writing, and much more.
