Inpatient Adult Psychiatric Services Fairmount offers inpatient treatment for adults and older adults who have moderate to severe psychiatric and behavioral problems. Our inpatient adult psychiatric services and programs are tailored to the patient's needs enabling them to more effectively cope with their emotions and maladaptive behaviors. Adult inpatient treatment is provided in our state-of-the-art hospital built in 1997 as one of the premier psychiatric hospitals in the United States. Fairmount has four unique adult psychiatric units, which provide treatment programs that best meet the clinical needs of the patient. Some patients require adjunctive therapies or other modalities to most effectively communicate and express themselves. Our Allied Therapy program provides the adult with optional avenues for expression and fosters group interaction. Professionals who are specially trained in music, art, dance/movement and recreational therapies staff the Allied Therapy Program at Fairmount. Fairmount is recognized among the leading mental health clinics in the harrisburg, PA area, from Pittsburgh, to Harrisburg, to Philadelphia..
Download Documents: Fairmount's Adult Inpatient Psychiatric Service is a specialized level of care designed to meet the needs of individuals 18 years and older who are experiencing severe psychiatric disorders. There are 105 beds in the main hospital on five units: a. N1: Intensive Care. This unit is where the most chronic mentally ill patients are admitted. These patients have long-standing disorders, multiple psychiatric breaks throughout a lifetime, persistently low DSM-Axis 5 scores, and may need longer hospital stays to achieve stabilization. b. N2: Short Term Assessment and Treatment. N2 is a general psychiatric unit designed to manage higher functioning patients in need of short-term assessment and stabilization. c. N3: High Acuity Care. N3 is a general psychiatric unit that serves patients who present with aggression and or active suicidal activities. These patients are often candidates for increased observation while on other units. d. N4: General Psychiatry with a Dual Diagnosis Track. Patients served on N4 may present with a variety of issues. In addition to general psychiatry, N4 has a separate dual diagnosis program for patients whose mental illness co-occurs with an addictive disorder. Patients on N4 are separated by program for clinical activities such as group therapy and psycho-educational seminars. The dual diagnosis program has the capability of implementing a detoxification protocol for alcohol, benzodiazepines and opiates. This unit will also provide Methadone maintenance (up to 200 mg/day) and Suboxone maintenance if the individual is currently receiving those medications from another provider; we will need to have the ability to verify the dosage. e. N5: Inpatient Services for Young Adults. This unit admits patients who have general psychiatric problems but whose ages generally range between 18 years and 30 years old. Programming on this unit has a strong component of chemical dependency education as well as curriculum and services designed for the development needs of this age group.
